Nepal-Tibet floods leave nearly 800 dead as thousands remain missing
On Aug. 26 and 27, an ice-and-rock avalanche or glacial collapse triggered catastrophic floods along the Nepal-Tibet border, killing hundreds, destroying communities and leaving many missing. By Aug. 30, nearly 800 bodies had been found in Nepal, while more than 2,500 people remained missing and tens of thousands needed relief. Bharatpur had received 270 unidentified remains and began mass burials after its morgue reached capacity. The rising toll and fading rescue prospects shift the story from an uncertain early disaster count to a rapidly worsening death toll and unresolved missing-persons crisis.
