Lula wins fourth term as Brazil's president, defeating Bolsonaro
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won Brazil's presidential runoff with about 51.8% of the vote, defeating Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, who refused to concede and said he would seek annulment of the result. The victory gives the 80-year-old leftist an unprecedented fourth term and makes him the first candidate since 1989 to win a runoff after losing the first round. It blocks a rightward shift in Latin America that President Trump has backed, though Lula will face a divided country, a Congress where Bolsonaro's party holds the largest bench, and mounting public debt.
