White House asks ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign
The White House said Tuesday it has asked US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign following allegations of unethical conduct. Press secretary Katie Zacharia announced the decision a day after President Donald Trump said he was not happy with Guilfoyle amid Wall Street Journal reports that she solicited $100,000 from a Trump donor to pay an American Express bill, accepted private jet trips and luxury stays, and promoted private business interests. Guilfoyle, a former Fox News host once engaged to Donald Trump Jr. and the first woman to serve as ambassador to Greece, denied the allegations and acknowledged her time in Athens may be ending. Congressional Democrats have called for ethics investigations and US Attorney Jeanine Pirro said Tuesday she would not rule out an investigation pending a possible State Department inquiry.
