US suspends green card sponsorship program for Microsoft, tech firms

The Trump administration said Thursday it will suspend Microsoft, Adobe, Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL Technologies and Capgemini from the Permanent Labor Certification Program that lets US employers sponsor foreign workers for permanent residency. Vice President JD Vance accused the companies of abusing the worker visa system and said they should hire American workers, while Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling said the government will not accept new or pending labor certification applications involving the firms and cited multiple active federal investigations. The action is part of a broader crackdown on legal immigration and affects major tech employers that rely heavily on skilled foreign labor. Vance also said the administration will investigate nine universities including Harvard, Yale and Stanford over alleged abuse of a program for international students.
