Supreme Court lets Trump resume third-country deportations for now

The US Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed the Trump administration to resume deporting migrants to countries other than their own without notice and a chance to argue they face persecution or torture. The justices paused a Boston federal judge's ruling that the Department of Homeland Security policy was unlawful, over the dissents of the three liberal justices, after the government said the ruling forced it to cancel a flight carrying about 70 migrants to three countries. More than 25,000 people have been deported to 29 countries under the policy, mostly to Mexico, and the court will hear arguments in December before deciding whether the policy is lawful.
