Paramount settles states suit to clear Warner Bros. merger
Paramount reached a settlement with California and other states to resolve the antitrust lawsuit blocking its planned acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The proposed consent decree requires minimum theatrical releases, increased US production spending, continued free streaming and retention of California studio lots, plus an editorial independence board for CBS and CNN and separate sale of cable channel bundles. The agreement, which still needs court approval, removes the last major barrier and lets Paramount move to close before daily fees to shareholders begin.
