US to ban Canadian alcohol, dairy and motorcycles in trade escalation

The Trump administration said Tuesday night it will ban imports of some Canadian alcohol, dairy, motorcycles and other goods effective Sept. 29 under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930. The move follows Canada's C$27bn in retaliatory tariffs that took effect Tuesday, which the Financial Times highlighted, while The Washington Post noted the ban affects single-digit billions in imports and was called unprecedented. The Financial Times also reported additional 50 percent duties on cheese, furniture and paper taking effect next week, and The Washington Post reported modifications to existing tariff lists.
